Eliminate Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Impingement is a term used to describe the scenario where the space between the humerus (arm bone) and the acromion (hook of the shoulder blade) becomes compromised, pinching the structures in between. This pinching of a rotator cuff muscle, bursa, biceps tendon, and ligaments can cause pain deep in the shoulder joint, sometimes accompanied with radiating pain into the arm. Despite the discomfort, there are some basic ways to help reduce, eliminate, or prevent this pain from occurring. Click the button below to view some exercises to help!

Decrease Back Pain

About 50% of our clientele have come to see us for lower back pain. There are many different causes of pain in this region, including muscle injury, disc-related pathology, osteoarthritis, and instability, to name a few. Determining the pain generator is important, however the key piece of the puzzle is finding the root of the problem. A good physical therapist will be able to determine the activities or issues with body mechanics that caused the injury in the first place. In order to properly recovery from low back pain, we need to not only eliminate the pain, but correct the dysfunction at its core to prevent the injury from returning in the future. Having a “stiff neck” can be caused by several factors, most commonly tight musculature and hypomobility in the joints. However, neck stiffness can also stem from disc pathology, postural dysfunction, and muscle spasm in the mid back. Since there are so many variables with neck pain, we can address them in the following categories: stretching, mobility, strength, and posture. The hips are the main pivot-point of the skeletal system, connecting the lower extremities to the spine. Our hips help us perform many everyday tasks that we take for granted, such as walking, running, going up/down stairs, sitting, standing, jumping, and more! Having great hip strength and mobility will ultimately help you to move optimally and avoid injury or compensation. Click the link below for some tips to improve flexibility, gain more range of motion, and increase strength in your hips!

Thoracic Spine Mobility

Despite the fact that our rib cage is meant to be relatively rigid to protect our organs, the thoracic spine needs to have an element of flexibility to remain mobile. Thoracic stiffness will cause a multitude of problems including neck pain, decreased shoulder range of motion, and lower back pain. Thoracic spine mobility is directly related to cervical range of motion, the ability to perform overhead movements, and postural control.
